Event Details
Join us for Friday evening drinks to celebrate for the launch of Bosla Art's new publication In Defiance featuring the work of 7 artists worldwide whose work faces or confronts oppressive forces (persecution, censorship, exclusion, and more). Alongside their work, In Defiance comes with country profiles to learn more about the context of each artist and a resources page to take action. Additionally, inside every copy is a an A3 fold-out map artwork which draws on historic cases of clampdowns on artistic freedoms to show that artists are being targeted worldwide.
Copies of the publication will be available to purchase on the night.
Featured artists: Abdulrahman Adriano (Egypt), Ellayeraldina (Colombia), Lady Liberty HK (Hong Kong), Mohammed Moussa (Palestine), Powerpaola (Argentina), Nadya Sayapina (Belarus), Shika (Malaysia).
Each of the artists originates from parts of the world that are in crisis or flux; Argentina, Belarus, Egypt, Colombia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Palestine, and were each given 5 pages and 5 themes to interpret as they see fit. The results are eye-opening; from the clampdown on human rights in Hong Kong, to climate change in Argentina, from racism in Colombia, to trans rights in Malaysia, from occupation in Palestine, to imprisonment in Belarus and changing societies in Egypt – In Defiance has shown us how each of these artists have deployed their medium (poetry, illustration, photography, sculpture, and more) as a vehicle for their voice.
Bosla Arts is a new collective of art practitioners and activists who seek to support artists worldwide who are facing / confronting oppressive forces through their work while drawing on their experiences to raise and spread awareness to the UK public. Bosla Arts was founded by Georgia Beeston and Hossam Fazulla.
