Event Details

Join Iain Overton, award winning investigative reporter and researcher on a one-day introduction course to human rights reporting investigative reporting. From equipping yourself to cover conflict zones, to finding stories using Freedom of Information requests, to analysing data on human rights abuses, to pitching your stories to national newspapers and broadcasters, this one day course will introduce you to human rights reporting and coverage. Overton will bring extensive experience of reporting from over two dozen conflict zones, and over 100 countries, to this event, giving first-hand and - above all - practical guidance on how to report on human rights abuses ethically and responsibly. The course will look at issues such as Freedom of Information, open source investigations, computer-assisted reporting (CAR), undercover reporting and news commissioning and delivery, in a broad-stroke introductory day.

Ideal for younger journalists seeking to get into conflict reporting, people working for NGOs and charities that seek to understand how to investigate abuses better and those seeking to understand more about human rights reporting in the round.

This is one-day workshop from 10am to 4pm includes a tea, coffees and lunch in the Club.
